"OPPORTUNITIES FOR EUROPEAN TEXTILE AND CLOTHING INDUSTRY"


Flemish-Ukrainian Networking in Textiles and Clothing
With support of the Ministry of the Flemish Community

February, 3-4, 2009 an International conference "Opportunities for European Textile and Clothing Industry" that was conducted within the framework of general Flemish-Ukrainian project "NeTTex" - "Flemish-Ukrainian Networking in Textiles and Clothing" took place at Kiev National University of Technologies and Design.

Near 100 participants from more than 35 organizations, representing various higher educational institutions, enterprises and organizations from Ukraine, Romania, Moldova and Czech Republic took part in the conference. Among them were Rector of University Professor Oleg Volkov, the First Secretary of the Embassy of Belgium in Ukraine, Director of the Department of Innovations and Transfer Technologies MESU Mr. V. Shovkalyuk, President of the Ukrainian Association of Enterprises of Fabric and Textile Industry "UKRLEGPROM" Ms. V. Izovit, Executive Director of Ukrainian Association of Textile and Clothing Industry Employers Ms. Т. Zamoroko, Head of Department of Textiles, Ghent University Mr. Paul Kiekens, Director of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Flanders - Ukraine Mr. A.Boytsun. 16 plenary reports were presented at the conference.

Carrying out the NeTTex project is an implementation of the university's strategy, aimed at development of worldwide cooperation with international and especially European universities. Goal of the conference was to facilitate putting into practice European educational conception and experience of higher educational institutions in educational activity into our university.

The conference was aiming at establishing new contacts between the enterprises of Flemish and Ukrainian textile and sewing industry, searching for ways of introduction of scientific and technical elaborations made by our university researchers into practice, sharing and acquiring information on innovative trends in Belgium, Ukraine's and Romania's textile and sewing industry sectors.

The conference agenda included three main topics:

  1. Ukrainian and Belgian textile and sewing industry. Prospects of development and mutual relations.
  2. Flax cultivation in Ukraine. New technologies are for a production.
  3. Artificial coverage for the football fields: the future for football in Ukraine.

Within the framework of the section "Ukrainian and Belgian textile and sewing industry. Prospects of development and mutual relations" there had been presented reports about current conditions for the textile industry in Ukraine and Belgium. Speakers representing the textile and sewing industry in Ukraine "UKRLEGPROM" and Belgium "Creamoda" presented some statistical information. The issues on support of the fabric and textile industry in Ukraine were also a part of the conference debate.

The section "Flax cultivation in Ukraine. New technologies are for a production" had united leaders of enterprises "Volodarsk-Volynskiy flax factory", "Makarivskiy flax factory" and "Len-Tekmash". They spoke about condition and prospects of flax cultivation and flax processing in Ukraine. They discussed current situation and possibilities of work-load and capacities of the industry enterprises. Research from both ours and Romanian university "Aurel Vlaicu" exchanged the results of their studies in the field of flax processing. Professor M. Bereznenko spoke about "New assortment of the flex based textile materials. His presentation covered long-term university studies related to development of theoretical and practical principles for effective technologies of the complex processing bast fibres and wares for the various purposes. Doctor Cecilia Sîrghie (Romania) spoke about "Present and future in enzymatic flax processing". Her report attracted great interest from the Ukrainian flax producers. University academics representing various departments such as Technologies and Constructing of Sewing Wares; Materials and Technologies of Textile Fibers Processing, Technologies of Polymeric Materials and Chemical Fibers revealed their enormous interest to the issues discussed in course of the conference debates.

Some reports were presented in course of the conference section "Artificial coverage for the football fields", which was jointly organized by The Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Flanders - Ukraine. Among participants of the conference section there were businessmen from Belgian enterprises (Desso Sport Systems, ITC carpets), representatives of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, Football Federation of Ukraine and some other delegates interested in and involved in preparation of Ukraine to the European Football Championship 2012. Some participants stressed on Ukrainian's needs related to reconstruction of the football fields to EURO 2012 and other tournaments. The issue on accreditation of Ukraine's stadiums and football fields was raised by sporting associations' and football federations' representatives (UEFA, FIFA). Special attention was paid to an artificial grass and coverage for football fields. This problem was discussed by Professor Paul Kiekens from University Ghent and Mr. Yves De Cocker who presented experience of Desso Sport Systems Enterprise, Belgium in his presentation "Practical application of artificial coverage for football fields in Ukraine".
